photography and musings by an amateur photographer aspiring to be more
It's been a while since I've posted. Mainly because it's cold, and I haven't been taking too many pictures, and also, I haven't come across anything revolutionary worth writing about. However...
I'll set the stage ... We were supposed to go see Mr. Brownstone, a Guns N' Roses tribute band from the Boston area at the Paradise. I knew there were openers, but only that there was "Some disco-metal band" who was supposed to be playing. Thoughts of Static-X went through my head (remember them? no? good). The first band played, and they were, indeed, industrial metal. Pretty pretentious, but not completely awful. I guess...
Then ... A group of men dressed in black dress shoes and white jumpsuits from the 70's got onstage, along with two females dressed in angel wings. The audience's confusion was tangible. These men then proceeded to announce that they were "Tragedy: The Tri-State Area's #1 Heavy Metal Tribute to the Bee Gees."
They proceeded to rip out tight, dead-on, metal renditions of the Bee Gees' classics. Complete with female backup vocals and a lead guitarist who could do the Bee Gees' falsetto dead on. There was a man on stage who's sole job was to dance, wear a Captain's hat, and play the cowbell. The between-song banter was priceless, including a 80's metal-type interlude to the song "You Should be Dancin'" about, what else? Demon-babies. Brilliance.
Words don't do these guys justice. Take a listen to them on their page (linked above). Choice hits are: "Jive Talkin'" and "Stayin' Alive". If you can, catch them live, best and funniest live show I've seen in a long, long time.
